Key Responsibilities

As a Software Engineer - Data Scientist at Google, your primary role will be to evaluate and improve Google’s products through data-driven insights. You will collaborate with Engineers, Analysts, and other teams to:

• Work with large, complex data sets and solve non-routine analysis problems using advanced statistical and machine learning methods.
• Conduct data gathering, requirements specification, data processing, and analysis, ensuring ongoing deliverables and presentations for various stakeholders.
• Collaborate with engineering and customer-facing teams to design data-driven advertising and marketing products, while adhering to privacy-preserving standards.
• Develop methods for improving the quality of Google’s products, such as ad quality, search accuracy, and user behavior modeling through live experimentation and statistical analysis.
• Make informed business recommendations based on cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, and experiment analysis, communicating findings clearly to stakeholders at multiple levels using visual data displays.
• Research and build models to forecast and optimize various Google services, enhancing user satisfaction and improving the performance of Google’s platforms.
• Suggest, support, and shape new data analysis techniques, such as differential privacy, and implement machine learning algorithms to create scalable solutions.

Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have:

• Proficiency in statistical software such as R, Python, S-Plus, SAS, or similar tools for data analysis and machine learning.
• Experience in statistical data analysis, including linear models, multivariate analysis, stochastic models, and sampling methods.
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and an ability to select appropriate statistical tools for data problems.
• Familiarity with machine learning on large datasets and experience in building and developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems, or networks.
• Strong analytical skills, with the ability to draw conclusions from data, recommend actions, and present findings using effective visual communication methods.
• Strong programming skills and experience with compute technologies, storage solutions, and hardware architecture.
• Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques, such as differential privacy, to create innovative solutions.
